I never did subscribe to the jack of all trades, master of none mantra; at least when it comes to creativity. Art, music and storytelling all activate the same parts of the brain. Creativity starts as abstraction. Art remains subjective at the end of the day. This is not to say logic doesn’t play a role but it’s not as important to creativity as exploration is. When I play drums, of course I’m keeping time but I’m also finding, processing and disseminating patterns. Same thing happens when painting a canvas, shooting a film or writing a novel. If you can get your head around pattern and rhythm, my fervent belief is that you’re more than half-way there.
This site is both a showcase of current projects and an archive of my life’s work. I’ve had a rewarding 28-year career as a graphic designer which has been what’s kept the lights on. But drums and music composition have been with me much longer. Filmmaking and writing are disciplines I began taking seriously only fifteen years ago. The real secret to mastering your creative penchant is to start something. Anything. Hell, everything! Then, please drop me a note and send me samples of what you’ve broken. :)
IF YOU CAN CREATE ONE THING, YOU CAN CREATE ANYTHING.
